Ambition to Design Professionally
Chris has always loved drawing. In fact, he studied it throughout his high school and college years. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design from Sam Houston State University in 1993. However, after many years in the graphic design industry, something was still missing. Chris wanted to become a Certified Professional Building Designer. He began doing research on what was needed. Without delay, he slowly started down that path. After all, this was something he was very passionate about, and was determined to get it.
Becoming a Certified Professional Building Designer
Chris had to have more than six-years of work experience. In addition, he had to submit examples of his work and three letters of recommendation from his peers. All of this in order to participate in a thorough and rigorous testing program. This program tested him on competencies related to performing the services required in planning, design and construction, as permitted in the State of Texas. As a result, he passed the exam and Chris was certified through the National Council of Building Designer Certification. Finally, Chris can use the title of Certified Professional Building Designer so long as he takes continuing education classes (CE) every year. At a minimum he must take at least 8 credit hours and submit them to the AIBD for approval.
